Here, it's a Golden Retriever rescue organization.The book, The Darkest Evening of the Year by Dean Koontz, is a thriller, of course, so the dog-protagonist Nickie does have some supernatural powers, and Amy Redwing, the founder of the Golden Heart rescue group, does stumble upon some really dark stuff after she rescues Nickie along with Nickie's family ....
